Why Mediation?

Why Mediation?

Sometimes communication between couples, family members, employers and employees and even between neighbours can become fraught, with neither party ‘being heard’ and each feeling dissatisfied, disappointed and unhappy. Unmanaged conflict can impact on work and family life both in terms of physical and mental health as well as in financial terms.

Conflict escalates, communication deteriorates and before you know it deadlock ensues. Lawyers are called in and we find ourselves in the Courts or Employment Tribunal embroiled in a hugely lengthy and costly process after which neither party feels truly victorious and any future relationship is rendered impossible.

Alternative Dispute Resolution provides the opportunity for an impartial, neutral Mediator to understand the conflict in psychological terms and thus the underpinning emotions behind the stalemate. It is consensual, confidential and voluntary.

Each party is given the opportunity to speak openly and honestly with the Mediator facilitating a safe and frank environment until a mutually agreeable settlement is reached that will be legally binding. If an agreement cannot be reached, the entire process is Without Prejudice, meaning nothing said can be used in any future court proceedings.
